BIOGRAPHY “I would like my pictures to be a testament to the heroism, frustrations, joys, and sorrows of the forgotten.” Hamideh Zolfaghari was born in Tehran , Iran . Her finely hand crafted photographs focus on both Nomadic and modern culture of Iran . In the scope of the last nineteen years, her passion for new lands and adventures has led her to some amazing journeys. After her training in San Jose State University in California , she worked in San Francisco for four years. She then left for Iran to freelance. There she immersed herself in culture, religion, and contrast of human life. In 1989, she showed her first body of work at annual Exhibition in Museum of modern arts in Tehran . There she was the recipient of first prize in photography. Since then, she has won numerous other prizes for her excellence in photojournalism. She has also been active in many premiere art shows galleries in Paris , Switzerland , and London , and California . Her book “ Tehran ” provided a medium for her to share some of these experiences. In 1999, she began to work as a photographer for UNICEF. Facing many adversities as a female photographer in Iran , she has fought to tell the stories of many that could not express it themselves. By capturing these tales of their lives, she delineates the extreme contrast in the Iranian culture. Many of the artist's images allow one to forge a link between the nomadic tribes in Iran and the modern life in Tehran . A common thread that weaves through every image is its exquisite ability to allow the viewer to engage and capture the essence of the human spirit. Her intuition and curiosity has allowed her to cross all boundaries of culture. Throughout her journeys, she has learned to patiently wait hours if not days to capture an image. “I wait until people can see me not just the camera, then I can capture the spirit and essence of every human condition.” Her thought-provoking images invite us all to celebrate diversity, culture, and the beauty of life.
